About Us

Goodog Positive Training is run by Barbara Hodel and Lorna Miller, both Northern Beaches dog trainers. The partnership came into being when Barbara and Lorna realised a lack of available training for young dogs and puppies after they had been through Puppy Pre-School and when they were too young to join a Dog Training Club. They also recognised a local need for one-on-one training for specific behavioural issues in all dogs, especially “teenage” dogs.

Barbara has been involved in dog training for the last seven years. She instructs in Obedience and Agility with the Manly and District Kennel and Dog Training Club, and has been teaching puppy classes at a veterinary clinic for over 18 months. Barbara has completed the Canine Good Citizen Behavioural Dog Training Course with the Delta Society, the premier-recognised dog training organisation in Australia. She has achieved Certificate IV in Companion Animal Services as a Delta accredited instructor. She competes in the dog sport of Agility and her own dogs have achieved ADAC Jumping Dog of the Year (with Soma, a German Shepherd cross) and second in the Scotland Island Annual Dog Swimming Race (with Zorbas, a Kelpie/Ridgeback cross). Barbara is a member of the Delta Society, the Association of Pet Dog Trainers Australia (APDT) and Dogs NSW, the governing canine body in NSW.

Lorna has been instructing in Agility and Trick Training for four years, and competes in Agility and Herding. She is President of the Manly and District Kennel and Dog Training Club, patronised by the Northern Beaches Councils. Her dog, Magnet, a Koolie, has become a local identity and stars as the Companion Animal face of the Northern Beaches Councils, the Performing Wonder Dog at Animal Welfare League Open Days and regularly demonstrates at Council events in Agility and Trick Performances. He has appeared on national television a number of times and regularly appears in the local newspapers. Lorna is a member of Dogs NSW and the Association of Pet Dog Trainers Australia
